Chappelle’s Show is officially back on Netflix. The announcement came from Dave Chappelle himself in a 10-minute post titled on the comedian’s Instagram. In the post, titled “Redemption Song,” Chappelle says that ViacomCBS has finally made things right with the licensing debacle that made Netflix pull the show in the first place, at Chappelle’s request.
“I asked you to stop watching the show and thank god almighty for you, you did. You made that show worthless because without your eyes, it’s nothing,” Chappelle explained in the recent post. “And when you stopped watching it they called me. And I got my name back. And I got my license back, and I got my show back, and they paid me millions of dollars. Thank you very much.”
“Finally after all of these years I can finally say to Comedy Central, ‘it’s been a pleasure doing business with you,’” said. The post finished with a video montage of Chappelle’s Show clips set to the song Happy Days are Here at Last.
Back in November, Netflix quietly removed Chappelle’s Show from its library after Dave Chappelle reached out to them personally saying ViacomCBS has been licensing out his show without paying him anything. The comedian said that just because he signed a contract years ago, that doesn’t make things right for ViacomCBS to not have to share some of the profits with him today.
