CBS & Viacom Will Merge Into a Single Company Next Week

Today CBS and Viacom announced that they will complete their merger on December 4th, 2019 into ViacomCBS. This merger will once again bring the two companies back together after they broke up over 10 years ago.

CBS and Viacom have agreed to a leadership deal to make Viacom’s CEO the new leader of a combined company. CBS’s current CFO will take over as CFO for the new company. Now, this is far from a done deal as regulatory approval is still needed before the merger can be completed.

A combined CBS and Viacom is a massive streaming giant with a combined streaming lineup of CBS All Access, Showtime, CBS News, ET Live, Pluto TV, BET+, and more on the way. Add in the fact that CBS and Viacom own some of the most popular channels on TV, and the combined company will have a huge say about the future of cord cutting.

Viacom has made it clear that they plan to use a combination of paid and free streaming services to help grow their business. Recently we saw some additional CBS content come to Pluto TV. Now with the merger happening next week, it is very possible that we could see Viacom content come to CBS All Access and CBS content come to Pluto TV. We will keep an eye on this story and post updates as we learn more.
