CBS Sports New 24/7 Streaming Service Will Be Called CBS Sports HQ & Other New Details

Sometime this week (maybe as soon as tomorrow) CBS is launching a new free 24/7 sports network based on their CBSN model. The service will offer 24/7 streaming news and highlights covering the world of sports.

Now for the first time, we have some real details as CBS briefly posted a press release about the new service on their website and can be found on the WayBackMachine.

Here is what we know:

The new service will be called CBS Sports HQ. CBS describes the new service in their press release as a”new, free and catered to the modern sports fan. It’s a 24/7 streaming news, highlights and analysis network, with a focus on bringing viewers intelligent, news-driven coverage of sports with no filler.”

Here is what CBS CEO and the Chairman of CBS Sports have to say about the new service:

“CBS SPORTS HQ is for fans who want more coverage of the game. Sports fans can now get the news and highlights they want in a true, round-the-clock sportscast on any device, where and when they want,” said Jim Lanzone, CEO of CBS Interactive and Chief Digital Officer of CBS Corporation. “As with CBSN, which continues to attract a growing audience of digital consumers, we also think there’s a tremendous advantage in being first to market with this type of service in a crown jewel category.”

“CBS SPORTS HQ offers fans a new, always-on, easily accessible way to digitally consume sports news and highlights, with the quality coverage, reporting and analysis they expect from CBS Sports,” said Sean McManus, Chairman of CBS Sports. “It’s a terrific platform for us, as we extend the CBS Sports portfolio reaching the growing audience of young viewers who get much of their news and information on digital platforms.”

What will you see on CBS Sports HQ:

According to the press release that was live on the site the new streaming service will be anchored by Chris Hassel, Jamie Erdahl, Hakem Dermish, Nick Kostos, as well as other CBS personalities.  CBS Sports HQ will also have former athletes such as Danny Kanell, Rip Hamilton, Rashad Evans and Thomas Rongen, as well as former executives such as Jim Bowden and David Samson.

CBS also says “You’ll also notice some familiar names on CBS SPORTS HQ: Many of our experts are our longtime columnists, reporters and writers for CBSSports.com. Expect continued high-level analysis and storytelling from the likes of Gary Parrish, Dennis Dodd, Pete Prisco and more. National columnist Bill Reiter even has his own show, a weekday afternoon hour called “Reiter’s Block.”

How can you watch:

According to the press release you will be able to find CBS Sports HQ on Fire TV, Apple TV, and Roku Players. You will also find the service on the CBS Sports mobile app and on your computer at CBSSports.com/live. CBS went on to say that “if you sign up for the CBS Sports app, we’ll even alert you to segments about your favorite teams so you don’t miss a thing.”

For now, that is all we know but since the press release went live today and the CBS announced it will be live before the end of February look for CBS Sports HQ to go live sometime early this week.
