CBS All Access & Showtime Have 8 Million Subscribers

CBS seems to have hit gold with their subscription streaming services CBS All Access and Showtime. According to CBS, they ended 2018 with a combined 8 million subscribers.

This comes after it was reported that in August 2018 CBS All Access hit 2.5 million subscribers.

“Our strategy of creating more of the premium content that audiences want and making it available across new and traditional platforms continues to pay off, driving quarterly increases in subscribers at CBS and Showtime, both consecutively and year over year,” said Joe Ianniello, president and acting CEO at CBS, in a statement.

“In addition, we are generating significant momentum with our direct-to-consumer platforms, which provide a great return on investment and represent one of our most powerful long-term growth drivers,” Ianniello added.

To build on this success, CBS has announced a new set of Star Trek shows including shorts to expand their current Star Trek universe and a new show centered on Patrick Stewart returning to his role as Jean-Luc Picard on CBS All Access.

“Each episode will deliver closed-ended stories while revealing clues about what’s to come in future Star Trek: Discovery episodes,” said Alex Kurtzman. “They’ll also introduce audiences to new characters who may inhabit the larger world of Star Trek.”

No dates have been given for when these shows will go live, but it is likely the new Jean-Luc Picard show won’t hit CBS All Access until later this year at the earliest.
