CBS All Access Wins Big With “Star Trek: Discovery”

Last weekend CBS All Access’s new original “Star Trek: Discovery” premiered. CBS aired the first episode on CBS but the second episode was made available the same day exclusively on CBS All Access. From here on out all “Star Trek: Discovery” episodes will be exclusive to CBS All Access.

Now it looks like, at least at first, CBS All Access has won big on its new original show. According to CBS its streaming service CBS All Access had the highest number of sign ups in a single day ever.

CBS did not say exactly what the sign ups added up to; however, CBS executives seemed to be pleased with the numbers.

CBS is also taking cues from other successful shows by launching a live after show called “After Trek” exclusively on CBS All Access. Hosted by Matt Mira, the show will include guest appearances from “Star Trek’s” stars and feature discussions of the episode and recaps.

CBS is hoping shows like “Star Trek: Discovery” will push CBS All Access to eight million subscribers by 2020.

New episodes of “Star Trek: Discovery” will go live on CBS All Access every Sunday at 8:30 PM Eastern. At this time for US residents that will be the only way to watch the show. Outside of the United States Netflix will stream “Star Trek: Discovery” around the world.
