CBS Has More Than 5 Million Streaming Subscribers

Yesterday CBS held their quarterly earnings call and gave some interesting details about the current state of live TV streaming.

According to CBS, they currently have over 5 million live TV subscribers. That subscriber number includes subscribers to CBS All Access, DIRECTV NOW, PlayStation Vue, Hulu, fuboTV, and other services like Comcast and Spectrum streaming services, for example.

That number is far higher than expected. CBS was reportedly planning to hit 8 million subscribers by 2020. Now they are well ahead of schedule as they push to grow their reach of paying customers.

According to CBS, the average subscriber age to their CBS All Access service is 20 years younger than viewers who watch on broadcast and cable TV.

CBSN also has a young audience, with about 80% of viewers between the ages of 18 and 49 with an average age of 38.

Their CBS All Access and Showtime subscription services have growth “far beyond where we expected them to be.”

From the looks of it cord cutting is continuing to grow, and CBS is seeing the windfall from their investment in streaming.
