Catchy Comedy to Air Happy Days Marathon in Honor of 50th Anniversary

Join Catchy Comedy for a marathon of Happy Days next weekend in honor of its 50th anniversary as the show debuts on the channel.

While the theme song for Happy Days starts with Sunday, Catchy Comedy’s marathon begins on Saturday, January 13, at 11:00 p.m. ET with the Cunningham family’s first appearance during a segment on Love, American Style. The Catchy Binge continues with “All The Way.” At 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, sitcom worlds collide when Catchy Comedy airs a crossover episode of Laverne & Shirley, part two of the “Shotgun Wedding” episodes.

The 86-episode marathon concludes at 6:00 a.m. ET on Monday with “Fonzie’s Spots,” before the series assumes its new weekday spot at 2:30 p.m. ET, sandwiched between Laverne & Shirley and Mama’s Family.

Happy Days began as a short segment called Love, and the Television Set on the anthology series Love, American Style in 1972. ABC picked up the Cunninghams for a full series in 1974. The show debuted on January 15 and ran for 11 seasons, spanning 225 episodes. While the series was a moderate success during its first two seasons, by the third it was a ratings juggernaut and ranked as the number one show by Nielsen.

The show was mostly a light-hearted comedy about a high school student and his friends, but it also touched on more serious issues, including racism, nuclear war, and whether Fonzie could clear that jump over the shark on his water skis.

The series, set in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the 1950s, starred Ron Howard, Henry Winkler, Tom Bosley, and Mario Ross. Happy Days spawned several spinoff series, including Laverne & Shirley and Joanie Loves Chachi, Mork & Mindy, Blansky’s Beauties, and Out of the Blue.

Catchy Comedy hosts an extensive catalog of classic sitcoms and variety shows from the 1950s through the 1990s and hosts a Catchy Binge every weekend.
