Cable TV Subscribers Are Increasingly Turning to Streaming to Find Shows They Enjoy

In 2019, the messaging from big cable has been “cord cutters will come back to cable for a single bill that gives them everything they want.” Yet there is increasing evidence that a growing number of cable subscribers are using streaming services to find the shows they want to watch.

According to data from Reelgood, a site that helps people find shows to stream, 91% of Hulu subscribers also pay for cable TV, 77% of Amazon Prime Video subscribers also pay for cable TV, and 51% of Netflix subscribers also pay for cable TV.

This likely shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone as from day one services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon have had a majority of cable subscribers. What this does show us is that for all the talk of cable being a single bill, you can’t get everything you want from cable TV. Cable TV subscribers are turning to streaming to find the programming they want.

This also reveals the lie that cable TV is cheaper than cord cutting. Cable TV subscribers are unable to find the programs they want with cable. So, if you went back to cable TV would you really cancel all of your streaming services?
