Cable Networks Are Buying YouTube Channels as Cord Cutting Grows

Cord cutting has been hitting some smaller channels very hard, but one area has been doing well is legal and true crime networks like Law&Crime have found a dedicated following on cable, streaming, and OTA. Now they want to expand their success on YouTube.

Last year the Law&Crime channel added 4 million subscribers to its YouTube channel. Now to build on that growth Law&Crime this week closed on a deal to buy The Disturbing Truth, a popular true crime YouTube channel. This is just one purchase that Law&Crime has made recently, and it won’t be the last according to the network, according to a statement to TVNewsCheck.

Increasingly smaller networks are finding great success in putting their content on YouTube. Law&Crime Network’s YouTube channel now has 4.5 million subscribers and 2.4 billion total video views. Recently the network has reached an average of 100 million plus views monthly, a huge accomplishment for any channel.

“With the Law&Crime Network YouTube channel growing by nearly 4 million subscribers last year, we’ve doubled down on expanding our content strategies to consistently bring our audience the most captivating and informative videos in 2023,” said Law&Crime’s YouTube Director Robert Szoke. “Our acquisition of The Disturbing Truth is just one example of the unique true crime content that viewers can find on our channel this year.”

Increasingly cable networks are seeing the benefit of using YouTube to find new audiences and in the case of Law&Crime, drive traffic to their network on a provider or pay for direct access to the network starting off at just $1.99 a month.

Law&Crime is not alone in its efforts to grow on Youtube. Increasingly cable networks are flooding YouTube with clips, recap shows, and more.
