BritBox’s August Lineup Includes ‘Wild Bill’ Starring Rob Lowe, and More

The BBC Studios and ITV streaming service BritBox has announced it’s August slate, with lots of new shows to help you get your British Fix. It’s the US Premiere of Wild Bill starring Rob Lowe on August 4, and Agatha Christie’s Marple joins the content library with seasons 1 – 5 available later this month.

Here’s the full lineup of what’s new in August:

Six-time Golden Globe nominee Rob Lowe (The West Wing, Parks and Recreation) stars as high-flying U.S. cop Bill Hixon who after losing his job in the States arrives in the UK with his teenage daughter to shake up the East Lincolnshire Police Force – and his own life in the process – in this sharp-witted original take on the police procedural.  This series also stars Rachael Stirling (The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco, Tipping the Velvet) and Bronwyn James (Outlander, Call The Midwife).

Created by Emmy and BAFTA winner Jimmy McGovern (Cracker, Broken), this series of stand-alone contemporary dramas set in Britain follow characters experiencing some form of change in their lives. The series explores complex issues from addiction and infidelity, to depression and financial struggles; the life of a soldier’s wife, to the pain of a loved one lost. Lies that should never have been spoken to truths that are hard to hear – all linked by a common theme of characters who reach a turning point in life… and then move on. Featuring John Simm (Trauma,Doctor Who), Ian Hart (Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone, The Last Kingdom), Lesley Sharp (Living The Dream, Scott & Bailey) andRichard Armitage (The Hobbit, Ocean’s 8).

Alan Davies (Jonathan Creek, Damned) and Sandi Toksvig (The Great British Bake-Off) star in this clever comedy quiz show full of quirky facts, in which contestants are rewarded more if their answers are ‘quite interesting’.

Starring BAFTA winners David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch) and Jessica Hynes (Spaced) this dramedy shines a light on the everyday struggles and triumphs of a family looking after their severely learning disabled nine-year-old girl, Rosie. The stories, characters, and situations in the series are drawn from the real life experiences of creator and producers Shaun Pye and his wife Sarah Crawford, whose daughter was born with a rare undiagnosed chromosomal disorder.

Two leading British criminal barristers re-investigate historical murder cases in this return of the award-winning and engaging true crime series. Follow this emotional journey as modern-day descendants try to clear the names of relatives executed for murder, and determine whether irreversible miscarriages of justice had occurred.

Barristers Jeremy and Sasha revisit some of the cases they investigated previously and catch up with the family members about developments since the original programs aired.

Geraldine McEwan (Seasons 1-3) and Julia McKenzie (Seasons 4-5) give an outstanding performance, perfectly capturing Agatha Christie’s amateur detective – and the innocent exterior which harbors a razor-sharp mind. When the death of a fellow guest interrupts her Caribbean respite, Marple is unconvinced by the diagnosis of a heart attack, or the threat of voodoo, and cannot rest until she has uncovered the truth. Back in St. Mary Mead, Marple rescues a young friend, but they soon find themselves in an even more deadly situation.
