Beyonce’s Visual Album ‘Black is King’ to Premiere Exclusively on Disney+ July 31

On Sunday, Disney+ announced Beyoncé’s new visual album Black Is King will premiere exclusively on the streaming service on July 31, 2020.

The film is written and directed by Beyoncé. The teaser for the film has been viewed almost 63,000 times since its release on Sunday according to Disney’s Youtube channel.

The visual album, which is set to drop four years after 2016’s Lemonade, is described as a modern retelling of Disney’s The Lion King. In 2019, Beyoncé reprised the role of Nala for the live action remake of the classic film.

A press release from Disney and Beyoncé’s company Parkwood Entertainment reports that the film, which was in production for a year, will showcase the plight of the proverbial black family and illustrate what it means to persevere when faced with multiple obstacles. “‘Black Is King’ is an affirmation of a grand purpose, with lush visuals that celebrate Black resilience and culture,” the press release reads. “The film highlights the beauty of tradition and Black excellence.”

A teaser trailer for the film launched on Disney+ social media Sunday, Jun. 28, 2020. The trailer features Beyoncé in numerous scenes, donning a cheetah print one-piece surrounded by a group of Black men wearing cheetah print suits.

Viewers took to social media to announce their excitement and share thoughts about the visuals presented.

This news comes on the heels of the release of Beyoncé’s new single “Black Parade,” which released on Jun. 19, 2020. The visual album will also feature scenes from songs such as: “Brown Skin Girl,” “Mood 4 Eva,” and “My Power” along with some new songs.

Disney+ is available for $6.99/month right now. You can also get Hulu, ESPN, and Disney+ in a bundle package for $12.99/mo.
