The Best TV Is Not on TV… Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu Receive a Record Number of Emmy Nominations

OITNB1This week the Daytime Emmy nominations for 2016 came out and once again we see that the best TV is not on TV…

Netflix once again leads all streaming services with 54 nominations up from just 34 in 2016. Netflix shows that are nominated include “House of Cards,” “What Happened,” “Miss Simone,” and “Making a Murderer.”

Amazon Video also saw an increase in nominations over 2015, receiving 16 Daytime Emmy nominations up from just 12 last year. Amazon is hoping for a repeat win after winning big with their original comedy series “Transparent” last year.

Hulu received 2 nominations this year, which is up from zero nominations in 2015. They have one nomination for variety special writing category for “Triumph’s Election Special 2016” and one nomination for visual effects for the J.J. Abrams-produced Stephen King series “11.22.63.”

Even YouTube and Sony’s Crackle received three nominations in 2016.

In total, 75 Daytime Emmy nominations have been handed out to streaming services, which, of course, are not available on cable TV. Even more can be added to that number if you count services, such as HBO NOW, which took in 94 nominations and received more nominations than any service currently available.
