Be Careful of Scammers Targeting Cord Cutting

As cord cutting is predicted to hit 33 million Americans later this year, scammers have started to take notice. We have already seen everything from fake streaming services offering a ton of content at a low price to fake tech support scams.

Now an old scam is coming to cord cutting, and you need to be careful. In recent weeks we have seen a spike in reports of fake emails asking you to update your payment options.

This is not a new scam. You get an email saying your credit card was declined and you need to update your payment options on Netflix, Hulu, Sling, etc. The email has a link and if you enter your credit card info there it doesn’t go to Netflix but to the scammers who will likely sell it.

If you get an email saying you need to update your credit card info never click on any links in the email. No matter how convincing it looks, don’t do it. It could be from the company, but you never know. Always launch your browser and type in the address yourself.

Just be careful because Netflix and Amazon have millions of subscribers, and they are becoming targets for scammers.
