BritBox International reached more than 3.4 million global subscribers yesterday as the BBC and ITV-owned streaming platform acquired the popular crime drama Blue Lights.

Since the beginning of 2023, the British TV streaming service has seen a 15% increase in members by featuring original BBC programming like Stonehouse, Time, Sherwood, Beyond Paradise, Payback, and live events such as the BAFTA award ceremonies. The platform continues to add new content, including the December 7 debut of the mini-series Archie, featuring the life of Archibald Alexander Leach, better known as Cary Grant.

Its recent growth continues the momentum it has enjoyed for the last few years. Since launching in 2019, the platform has grown 300% by expanding where you could get the service.

In 2022, BritBox integrated into ITV’s streaming service ITVX. This year, the service launched in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland, as well as in Australia on Apple TV channels. Prime Video members can add BritBox to their account, although they will still have to pay the $7.99 monthly subscription cost.

Even though exceeding 3.4 million subscribers is big for BritBox, the streaming service is still miles behind its competition, AMC Networks’ Acorn TV. The service, which launched in 2011, also streams U.K. programs. According to Variety, Acorn TV said it has more than 11.8 million paid subscribers in January between its platforms, AMC+, Shudder, Sundance Now, ALLBLK, and HIDIVE.

BritBox celebrated the milestone by announcing a new show coming to the service.

BBC’s Blue Lights is a successful drama series about ordinary people doing an extraordinary job as probationary recruits at the Police Service of Northern Ireland in Belfast training to become police officers. The series, directed by Gilles Bannier and written by Declan Law and Adam Patterson, debuted on BBC and iPlayer in March And has been renewed for a second season.

BritBox is available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, South Africa, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland.
