The BBC & AMC Are Launching a New Streaming Service Called ‘BritBox’

Love British TV? We have good news for you… British rivals BBC Worldwide and ITV are teaming up to jump into the U.S. streaming marketplace with a new ad-free streaming subscription video on-demand (SVOD) service called BritBox. To do this they are joining forces with ABC here in the States.

BritBox will offer up a comprehensive collection of British content including dramas that have since been unavailable in the U.S. such as New Blood, from novelist Anthony Horowitz, Tutankhamun, The Moonstone and In The Dark from Ordinary Lies writer Danny Brocklehurst. Season premieres of Cold Feet and Silent Witness will also stream on the service alongside popular Brit soaps such as Eastenders, Emmerdale and Holby City, which will be available 24 hours after their UK broadcast.

“The BBC and ITV each have a long history of creating spectacular premium content and some of the most iconic shows on television,” said Josh Sapan, president and CEO of AMC Networks. “We are delighted to expand our current partnership with BBC Worldwide and view this investment as a strategic opportunity for AMC Networks to participate in a digital platform dedicated to offering shows of the highest quality.”

BritBox will be available on iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, PC, Macs, and Chromecast platforms. Pricing has not been announced yet and there is ambition to roll out the service to international markets.
