The Average Cable TV Customer Pays About Double the Advertised Price

A young woman is sitting in her kitchen and is loking at her receipts at home while using a smart phoneIf you are already a cord cutter give yourself a pat on the back for dodging another cable price hike.

Once again cable providers are trying to milk their customers for every penny they can get with an on average 4% price hike over this time last year. This data comes from the Leichtman Research Group, Inc., which tracks cable costs.

In 2015 the average cable TV subscriber paid $99 a month but now in 2016 the average has risen to $103.10 a month, which is about double the advertised price for cable TV promotional packages.

This is probably no surprise to many cord cutters but the advertised price is, as they like to say, the promotional price—something that few people get and it often includes hidden fees. Let’s not forget about the taxes cable TV has that Internet does not.

Over the last five years the average cable TV bill has gone up about 40% from $73.63 in 2011 to $103.10 in 2016; however, the promotional prices for many services has barely moved. So next time you hear about how cable TV is less expensive than cord cutting remember the average cable TV bill is now $103.10 and will likely keep increasing.

Don’t be fooled by cable companies and don’t let your friends be fooled either.
