We started looking at this bill after a Comcast customer posted on Reddit that he has paid over $10,000 in 7 years for their service. So what is the average cable TV subscriber paying?
According to NBC News the average cable TV bill was $99 in December 2015. So lets say $100 now almost a year later. On average Americans live until the age of 78.74 years old. If you started paying for cable TV at the age of 20 you would have paid for cable TV for over 58 years. That grand total is $69,600 but you still need to look at things such as installation fees. So lets say over your lifetime of cable TV subscriptions you will pay $400 in fees on top of the normal bill.
That all assumes this average price of $100 a month wont increase. In 2016 cable TV bills went up 3.9 percent. So it is likely that your true cost will be much higher than $70,000.
According to a Digitalsmiths study the average cord cutter spends $20 a month on streaming services. That means the average cord cutter will only pay $13,920 in their lifetime.
