Audible Launches a Cheaper Subscription Tier for Exclusive Podcasts and More

Today Audible announced the launch of Audible Plus, a subscription tier for podcasts and other exclusive audio separate from its audiobooks. The new plan will be cheaper than the full subscription costing just $7.95/month. The plan is geared for listeners who prefer podcasts without having to pay for access to audiobooks as well, and won’t earn listeners credits to purchase title downloads.

The Amazon company is also consolidating its Audible Gold and Platinum plans into a new offering called Audible Premium Plus. The plan will cost $14.95 and give listeners access to the entire Audible catalog and will receive one credit they can to purchase any type of content in the library. Audible Premium Plus is still in a “preview” stage ahead of the official launch. Existing Audible subscribers can access the new plan today, but new customers will have to wait until August 27.

The entire experience is ad-free, even podcasts Audible brings in from third parties. Audible also creates it’s own podcasts, as well as ‘Audible Originals’ which are seen more as storytelling with narration and structure.

“What makes us distinct or different is really our focus on expertly curated content, and then also that high quality and that bar of narrative storytelling — that stuff with a beginning, middle, and end,” said Rachel Ghiazza, head of US content.
