AT&T’s DIRECTV NOW Update Breaks Some Siri Support on The Apple TV For Some Subscribers

This week AT&T rolled out an update for DIRECTV NOW on the Apple TV. With this update, it seems to have removed some Siri commands on the DIRECTV NOW app. Multiple readers have reported that at times, they are no longer able to change channels using their voice and the Siri remote. Apple has said the issue was caused by DIRECTV NOW and that AT&T will need to update their app in order for full Siri support to return to the DIRECTV NOW app.

The issue seems to be almost at random. Some subscribers have reported no problems, but a growing number of readers have reported that they can no longer get DIRECTV NOW to respond when they use Siri to change a channel.  Have you noticed this issue? Please leave us a comment and let us know what issues you are having since the most recent update.

This all happened after AT&T’s most recent update that was reportedly aimed at fixing these bugs as multiple Cord Cutters News readers have reported that this update fixed several common issues for them.

It has been reported that the current DIRECTV NOW app will be the backbone of AT&T’s new live TV streaming service. This service will reportedly be called AT&T TV and will soft launch in a handful of markets in August of this year with a full roll out in the 4th quarter of 2019. Right now it seems that AT&T has been working on finding bugs in the app and fixing them as we see with this most recent update. It is possible that since this new AT&T TV service will use its own Android TV powered player that AT&T sees Siri support as a low priority right now.
