AT&T’s Cricket Wireless Announces $15 Phone Plan for New, Existing Customers

person holding a phoneCricket Wireless announced it will start offering a $15 plan in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its economic impacts. The new plan comes shortly after T-Mobile announced the early launch of its own $15 plan, called Connect.

The new Cricket plan should be available starting today and includes 2GB of data and unlimited talk and text. The company, a subsidiary of AT&T, also added its new plan is available to both new and existing customers for a limited time, though it’s currently unclear how long availability will last.

Reading the fine print shows that download speeds max out at 8 Mbps on LTE and half that via 4G. And after you exceed the 2GB monthly limit, you can still use data, but it’s throttled down to 128Kbps. In contrast, T-Mobile’s $15 Connect plan has a hard cap at 2GB of monthly data, however you can opt to bump that up to 5GB by selecting the $25 option.

Beyond the new low-cost plan, Cricket also announced it’s adding 10GB of data to capped and unlimited plans for both new and existing customers. That upgrade should last for the next two billing cycles, the company said.

In all, the deals and upgrades are part of an industry-wide movement to offer deals and limited-time upgrades during the ongoing pandemic. Companies have been announcing their various plans over the past few days and weeks and we’ll keep you up to date as we learn of more.
