AT&T Watch TV, a $15 Cord Cutting Service, Will Be Announced Next Week

During that interview, Stephenson announced that more details about AT&T Watch TV will be released next week.

AT&T also confirmed that AT&T Unlimited Wireless customers will get the service for free. All others will have to pay $15 a month for the service including non-AT&T customers.

AT&T Watch TV will include Turner content and will be sports free. According to AT&T, Watch TV will be “entertainment focused” but did not mention anything about news.

There are still many questions about AT&T Watch. What devices will it support? Will it use the DIRECTV NOW app? Will there be any news channels? How many channels will be included?

What we do know is that AT&T Watch TV looks like the first shot in what will likely turn into a price war for cord cutters. For a long time, Sling TV was the least expensive option. Recently Philo launched a $16 streaming service and now AT&T Watch TV is just $15 a month.

AT&T Watch TV also seems to continue AT&T’s push to sell wireless plans. Because Watch TV is free with a AT&T Unlimited plan, AT&T clearly is pushing AT&T Wireless.

So far almost everything AT&T has done with DIRECTV NOW and AT&T Watch TV is focused on pushing wireless subscriptions. Look for that trend to continue.
