AT&T Wants to Shutdown Its DSL Internet Service & Finally Has a Plan to Do That

Since 2020 AT&T has stopped selling DSL internet to new customers. Now AT&T is making a new push to get DSL customers off its old network and onto a new series called AT&T Internet Air.

“We’re beginning to phase out outdated services like DSL and new orders for the service will no longer be supported after October 1, ”AT&T told USA Today back in 2020 when it started to phase out the service. “Current DSL customers will be able to continue their existing service or where possible upgrade to our 100% fiber network.”

AT&T reportedly has plans to reduce its copper footprint by 50% over the next few years. At the time, AT&T faced criticism for not having new options for some markets to replace DSL internet. Now it seems AT&T has an answer for areas that still don’t have Fiber with AT&T Internet Air.

This new AT&T Internet Air is a wireless home internet service that runs off of the AT&T network. Now in a promo video first spotted by LightReading pushes customers to upgrade and leave DSL. “AT&T DSL Internet customers, upgrade to AT&T Internet Air.”

This new service costs $55 a month and has no data caps, unlike current AT&T DSL plans. This means AT&T Internet Air customers can stream all the videos they want without worrying about their data cap.

So what speeds should you expect? Here is what AT&T has said:

As of March 2023, Internet Air delivers typical download speeds between 40-140 Mbps. These speeds are based off of current internal data and are very dependent upon the connection the All-Fi Hub can achieve with the AT&T wireless network. We will continue to update these speeds as we monitor results. See att.com/broadbandinfo for more information.

With your new AT&T Internet Air Service, you will get a free All-Fi Hub that will act as your modem and Wi-Fi router.

AT&T seems so confident in the service it is offering DSL customers a 7-day risk-free upgrade option. You get to keep your current DSL service and test out AT&T Internet Air. If you don’t like it cancel within 7 days and get a full refund for the service.

Here is how AT&T describes its risk-free trial:

Limit one risk-free upgrade per eligible address, per account. You will be charged for monthly service on your activation date. If you cancel within seven days of activation, we will issue a refund provided you return all equipment within 21 days of your cancellation date.  Refund will be issued within 30 days after return of equipment.

Currently, AT&T Internet Air is only offered in select areas. You can learn more and sign up for AT&T Internet Air HERE.
