This week AT&T confirmed that it had suffered a data breach thanks to a vendor hack that has affected 9 million customers.

According to Bleeping Computer, AT&T said that a small number of customers had their rate plan name, past due amount, monthly payment amount, various monthly charges, and/or minutes used leaked in the breach.

AT&T has alerted federal law enforcement of the breach and is working with them on an investigation into what was leaked and how it happened.

This news comes a few months after T-Mobile suffered a data breach affecting some of its customers. Back in November, T-Mobile had data stolen from about 37 million customers, including addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth.

Increasingly it may be worth it for Americans to consider a service that monitors their credit report to help protect them from having their identity stolen. I use LifeLock in my home to help protect myself from data breaches and having my identity stolen.
