AT&T SportsNet May Become More Cord Cutting Friendly After New Deal With The MLB Pirates

This week the Pittsburgh Pirates and AT&T reached a deal to keep the team’s games on AT&T Sports Networks. Many Pirates fans had hoped the team would pick a new partner so their games could be streamed on services like Sling TV, YouTube TV, Hulu, and more. AT&T and the Pirates stopped just short of saying that would happen, but did say in their press release that they are “Working closely with the outstanding team at AT&T SportsNet and utilizing state-of-art technologies, we are excited to ensure that our games are produced and distributed in the manner that our fans demand” according to a report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

This is not the first time a statement like this has been made by an AT&T SportsNet partner only to have it never come true. Back in 2017, reports surfaced that the Utah Jazz’s new deal with AT&T would include their local AT&T SportsNet channel becoming available on live TV streaming services. Now two years later in 2019, that still hasn’t happened.

So far the AT&T SportsNet channel out of Houston TX is the only AT&T SportsNet channel to offer a live TV streaming option with fuboTV. Hopefully, this new deal with the Pirates means more AT&T SportsNet channels including AT&T Sports Net Northwest, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain, AT&T SportsNet Southwest, and AT&T SportsNet Utah will join fuboTV or other live TV streaming services.
