Mr. Stephenson did give us an update on DIRECTV’s new streaming services. According to Mr. Stephenson AT&T plans to launch it’s “thin” streaming only version of DIRECTV later this year. The price of this new service will be lower but he did not give any details on how low or what channels it will offer.
Many expect we may have already seen the first steps to this new thin version of DIRECTV. Recently AT&T has been beta testing a new Android TV-powered streaming player using DIRECTV NOW. Many believe this new streaming player will be the new set-top box for DIRECTV’s new streaming service.
How exactly AT&T plans to line up DIRECTV’s streaming version with DIRECTV NOW and AT&T Watch TV is unknown. From the way AT&T talks about the new service, it sounds like it could be a 3rd live TV streaming service separate from DIRECTV NOW and AT&T Watch TV. For now, we will have to wait to learn more about what AT&T is now calling a thin version of DIRECTV.
