AT&T Plans to Build Hundreds of New Cell Towers in 2019

Today AT&T announced that they plan to continue their partnership with Tillman Infrastructure to build hundreds of cell towers. This plan will have Tillman Infrastructure build and manage the towers and lease them to AT&T.

AT&T says they plan to build these new towers where towers do not exist today. Hopefully helping AT&T close some gaps in their coverage. Yet AT&T also says they plan to build some towers with the goal of moving equipment from currently leased towers when their leases expire. This is likely an effort to move cells of expensive leased locations to cheaper locations with Tillman Infrastructures.

“Our work with Tillman Infrastructure exemplifies our future model for the cell tower industry,” said Susan Johnson, executive vice president– Global Connections and Supply Chain, AT&T. “We’re committed to working with vendors who offer a sustainable cost model while also delivering best in class cycle times and tower construction.”

“Tillman is proud of the progress we’ve made with AT&T, in such a short time,” said Bill Hague, CEO of Tillman Infrastructure. “We’re bringing a real alternative to the tower infrastructure space for all mobile operators, with competitive pricing and flexible lease terms that accommodate sustainable growth. We will continue to work aggressively to construct and operate thousands of additional sites, while improving capacity and coverage for the entire country, especially in underserved rural areas.”

This is not the first time AT&T and Tillman Infrastructure have teamed up. Tillman Infrastructure has for some time now been building new towers for AT&T.
