AT&T Must Pay $166 Million in Damages For Infringing Mobile Patents Jury Rules

According to a ruling from earlier this week, AT&T Mobility LLC must pay $166.3 million in damages for violating Finesse Wireless LLC’s patents. This affects but AT&T’s LTE and 5G networks that ran on Nokia’s stations.

At issue here, are how AT&T’s networks reduced wireless-signal interference using technology owned by Finesse, according to a report from Reuters.

AT&T and Nokia have released a statement saying they disagree with the verdict and are considering an appeal.

Recently Finesse settled a similar dispute with DISH’s Ericsson Inc and Verizon Wireless last year. AT&T has decided to fight this instead of settling like some of its competitors have.

This fight is likely far from over. For now, we will need to wait and see what happens next, but as the network build-out for 5G, fights like this are going to become more common.
