AT&T Just More Than Doubled Their Wireless “Admin Fee”

A young woman is sitting in her kitchen and is loking at her receipts at home while using a smart phoneAT&T has been pushing hard to grow their wireless subscriber numbers. They have been using services like DIRECTV NOW and the new AT&T Watch TV to grow wireless subscribers.

Now AT&T has upped one of their lesser known fees to more than double the old rate. That fee is the “Admin Fee” that used to cost $0.76 a month. It now costs $1.99 a month. That may not seem like much, but over a year it adds up to $23.88 and over 10 years the new fee will cost you $238.80.

Fees like this can slowly add up, and this is how cable TV companies generate a large amount of revenue. The question now is will companies like AT&T find themselves in a cord cutting moment in a few years as new competitors enter the field to compete in the world of 5G.

As competition grows we have already seen companies like AT&T and Verizon forced to respond with new unlimited data plans. Will fees and price overall become the next big battlefield for wireless subscribers? Only time will tell, but like TV, it seems like the major wireless companies are trying to get as many subscribers as possible before new competition joins the market.
