AT&T is Adding a New $5 Fee On Prepaid Customers

Are you an AT&T prepaid customer? You will soon have a new fee on your service depending on how you pay. Yesterday AT&T started to notify customers of a new $5 fee if you pay AT&T over the phone.

This new $5 fee will start on February 14, 2024, and will only impact customers paying by phone. If you pay online or by AutoPay, you can avoid this fee. This new fee was first spotted by The Mobile Report. This new fee will also include the use of the automated phone system.

AT&T’s prepaid plans start at $25 a month and go up to $50 a month for unlimited prepaid if you use AutoPay. This new fee would add $5 a month to these plans, depending on how you pay.

This news comes as earlier this month, we learned that Verizon was raising the price of some of its legacy plans by $3 to $5 a month starting January 23, 2023. This would be the third price hike on Verizon’s legacy plans over the last year. Select plans went $2 a month back in February 2023, and again in July, select plans went up between $3 and $5 a month.

Other companies, including Verizon and T-Mobile, have slowly been pushing customers over to prepay. Moving customers to autopsy helps reduce the number of missed payments for the carriers.

If you would like to set up AutoPay to avoid this fee with AT&T, here is how to do that:

  1. Go to att.com/myprepaid.
  2. Select Make a Payment, then Pay and Enroll in AutoPay.
  3. Choose your payment method or add a new payment method.
  4. Select Continue.
  5. Read and agree to the AutoPay terms.
