“I think you can expect there will not be any more Cinemax originals being produced going forward,” HBO Max boss Kevin Reilly said during the Television Critics Association press tour. To make it even more clear Michael Quigley the Vice President of Content Acquisitions for HBO MAX said that Cinemax original content will not be on HBO MAX. “We’re not planning to bring the Cinemax content into the [HBO Maz] overall,” said Michael Quigley. “I think it still serves an important value for its customers in terms of its movie offerings.” According to a report from The Wrap.
AT&T was quick to say that Cinemax was not going away but like the Audience Network Cinemax will soon stop producing original programming.
Last week AT&T’s Chief Content Officer announced that they plan to turn the Audience Network into a promo channel for HBO Max. AT&T will use the channel to air content from HBO Max to give subscribers a taste of why they should sign up for the new service when it launches.
“We will begin to transition Audience Network from its current approach to support AT&T’s broader original content and marketing focus on the upcoming HBO Max service,” said Daniel York, chief content officer, AT&T Consumer to the Hollywood Reporter.
According to reports AT&T plans to move the original programing currently airing on the Audience Network to HBO Max when it launches. Currently, AT&T plans to launch HBO Max in May of 2020. AT&T has said they plan to make HBO Max one of their main focuses so using the Audience Network to promote the new service makes sense.
