AT&T Closing 40% of its Retail Stores Starting This Week

ATT logoAT&T announced it’s planning to close 40 percent of its retail locations beginning this week. In an open letter posted on the company’s home page, CEO of AT&T Communications Jeff McElfresh described the move as part of the company’s response to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

“In retail, our goal is to limit employees’ exposure while still upholding our responsibility to meet the essential needs of first responders and customers who are counting on us,” McElfresh wrote.

The letter goes on to mention operating hours at remaining stories will be adjusted to stay open from 11am to 7pm local time. Those stores will also be closed on Sundays. McElfresh added that employees at those stores will work to maintain social distancing guidelines to help protect themselves and customers. The company recommends using its store locator to track down an open retail store in your area. McElfresh also warned of potentially longer wait times when using the company’s call centers.

The move comes as several companies with large retail presences adapt to the ongoing outbreak. Apple, for one, opted to close all its retail stores outside of Greater China until March 27th.
