So why is AT&T unwilling to call these subscribers? It is likely because most of them are free accounts offered to AT&T Unlimited and More wireless subscribers who are likely not paying a monthly fee for the service.
This news comes as AT&T announced that DIRECTV NOW lost 267,000 subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2018. This is compared to the third quarter of 2018 when DIRECTV NOW added 49,000 subscribers. It is likely that some of these subscriber losses come from AT&T Wireless customers who in the past had a discount on DIRECTV NOW switching over to AT&T Watch TV.
AT&T currently owns in full or in part four live TV streaming services including DIRECTV NOW, AT&T Watch TV, Hulu, and the soon to be launched but already announced DIRECTV streaming service. With the growing number of live TV streaming services, you have to wonder which services AT&T will decide to focus on.
Now we have to wait and see what subscriber numbers other services like Sling TV will be reporting in the weeks to come.
