The upcoming Atari VCS console, a modern re-imagining of the classic Atari 2600, will boast some streaming service support when it launches later this year. This week, the company behind the PC/video game console hybrid announced it will ship with Plex’s free app onboard.

The console has been through a rather long and winding development road after an initial announcement back in 2017. That first teaser offered only glimpses of the console itself, but provided little in the way of specifications or capabilities. Preorder plans have also adjusted over the years, and the company has announced a handful of shipping delays, including earlier this year, when it cited production issues due to COVID-19.

The $399.99 console itself boasts an AMD Raven Ridge 2 APU and 8GB of upgradable RAM. In addition to running what the company calls “more than 100 arcade and home classics,” the console’s PC Mode also allows users to install Steam OS, Windows, or other operating systems to run more titles, including retro emulators.

As for Plex’s support, in addition to the free installed app, users can also take advantage of Plex Passes that include live TV viewing and DVR support.

The Atari VCS is currently available for preorder at a slight discount of $389.99 and is currently slated to ship later this year.
