As Cord Cutting Grows, So Does Antennas Sales & OTA TV

A TV antenna was once thought of as an almost dead medium. Now antennas are seeing a resurgence in popularity thanks to the growth of cord cutting. According to the President of Mohu Antennas, after Sling TV launched antenna sales doubled in stores like Walmart.

Now according to new numbers from the Consumer Technology Association, over 8.1 million antennas will be delivered to US retailers in 2019.

This reflects the slow but steady growth of TV antennas in the United States. Back in 2014, 12 million Americans used an antenna. In 2016, 16.4 million Americans used a TV antenna.

To cash in on this boom, we are seeing a flood of new antennas and DVRs built for antennas. Amazon recently launched a new OTA DVR for antennas joining a lineup of new DVRs in 2018 from Tablo, TiVo, and Channel Master.

Not only are we seeing new products, but we are also seeing new TV stations launching in 2019. CourTV is making a comeback this year as a free over-the-air TV network. There is also a new 24/7 news network launching this month.

No matter how you look at it, the once almost-dead free over-the-air TV with an antenna is now stronger than ever.
