As Cord Cutting Grows Antenna Usage is Up

Many cord cutters say that they exclusively use streaming services to watch TV and don’t have a need for an antenna. Earlier this month, we shared a few reasons that antennas are still a valuable part of a cord cutting setup, and we aren’t the only ones who know how helpful an antenna can be.

According to research from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), the number of households that use an antenna to watch TV is rising. In the CTA’s Understanding Over-the-Air Antenna Use Report, antenna usage has gone up by 11% in the past nine years. 19% of those included in the research said that they were an antenna-only household. Of those who answered that they use an antenna in their home, about 6 out of 10 said they were very satisfied with the experience.

While many cord cutters are happy with the local affiliate programming they can get from streaming services like DIRECTV NOWHulu, and PlayStation Vue, many are still interested in getting more local coverage, including news, weather, and traffic from an antenna. The report shared that 32% of those without an antenna currently are considering buying one within the next two years.
