Male hand holding TV remote control.Today Limelight Networks released their annual study on the state of TV and online stream. According to that study, online video streaming has never been more popular than it is right now.

Back in 2016 on average Americans streamed 4.29 hours of online video every week. Now that number has jumped to 6.75 in 2018. 18-25 year olds watch an average of 9.21 hours of streaming every week with Americans over 60 streaming an average of 4.46 hours of video every week. The most popular kind of content to stream is movies followed by TV shows. News and Sports took 3rd and 4th place respectfully.

In what may surprise some America is not the most popular place for online streaming video. According to the study the Philippines stream the most video with 8.77 hours a week followed by India at 8.46 and the United States in 3rd place. Germany and Japan came in last for the number of hours a week their citizens streamed online video.

Well, Americans with cable TV still watch more than they stream what we see here is the gap is closing. As more and more Americans stream most of their content online look for the number of Americans dropping traditional cable TV to increase.
