Cable TV is continuing to see its subscriber numbers drop as cord cutting is having a strong 2023. As cable TV companies continue to lose subscribers, YouTube TV has continued to add new subscribers. According to LightShed Partners, it now has 6.6 million subscribers. This makes Google the 5th largest live TV provider in the United States, and it may soon be the 4th largest.

This comes as Comcast and Spectrum continue to lose subscribers. In just three months of the 2nd quarter of 2023, Comcast and Spectrum lost a combined 743,000 TV customers. That works out to be just over 8,000 subscribers canceling cable TV every single day.

According to Comcast, it lost 543,000 video customers during the second quarter of 2023. That works out to almost 6,000 Subscribers Every Day.

Charter Communications, the parent company of Spectrum, has once again lost 200,000 TV customers in the 2nd quarter of 2023.

According to a report by LightShed Partners, YouTube TV is expected to add 2 to 3 million new subscribers thanks to the addition of the NFL Sunday Ticket. This would make YouTube TV the 4th largest live TV provider in the united states, just behind DIRECTV, Spectrum, and Comcast.

DISH Network currently is the 4th largest live TV with 7.416 million subscribers at the end of the 1st quarter of 2023. DISH has not announced the 2nd quarter 2023 earnings numbers. It is expected that DISH will once again lose subscribers. This could mean that YouTube TV, as soon as later this month, may become the 4th largest TV provider even if its fails to add the expected 2 million subscribers.

Clearly, Americans are deciding traditional cable TV is not needed. As satellite and cable TV companies continue to lose subscribers, it should be no surprise to see YouTube TV break into the top 4 largest live TV providers in the United States.
