Apple is expected to revile its upcoming tvOS 26 update, set to be unveiled at WWDC 2025, will bring a host of exciting new features to a range of Apple TV models, including the Apple TV HD (2015), Apple TV 4K (1st generation, 2017), Apple TV 4K (2nd generation, 2021), and Apple TV 4K (3rd generation, 2022) per a report from MacRumors. According to MacRumors, this update introduces a visionOS-inspired interface, new screensavers, a cross-platform Games app, Wi-Fi syncing, and potential AI-powered enhancements, marking a significant evolution for Apple’s streaming platform.
The standout feature of tvOS 26 is its redesigned interface, which draws heavily from the aesthetic of visionOS, Apple’s operating system for the Vision Pro headset. The update introduces translucent elements, floating menus, and windows with softer, rounded visuals that create a sleek, glass-like effect. These design choices, reminiscent of frosted glass with subtle light and shadow effects, aim to provide a more immersive and visually appealing user experience. This cohesive, cross-platform look ensures a unified experience across Apple’s ecosystem.
In addition to the visual refresh, tvOS 26 will reportedly introduce new screensavers to enhance the Apple TV’s idle display. While specific details about the screensavers remain under wraps, they are expected to build on Apple’s tradition of offering visually stunning options, potentially incorporating dynamic, AI-driven elements like the rumored “powered-by-AI Snoopy screensavers” according to MacRumors.
Wi-Fi syncing is also expected, particularly for captive Wi-Fi networks requiring login screens. This feature, anticipated to sync network credentials across Apple devices now on Apple TV, will streamline connectivity for Apple TV users, eliminating the cumbersome process of logging into networks via the current tvOS interface.
While AI-powered features are rumored, their full implementation may depend on new hardware. Apple Intelligence, including an enhanced Siri, could bring smarter content recommendations and voice interactions, but older models like the 2015 Apple TV HD may face limitations due to their hardware constraints.
The update is expected to roll out later in 2025, with more details to be revealed at WWDC.
