Apple TV’s Lead Designer Is Leaving

apple_tv_1Ben Keighran has been leading the Apple TV design team for four years. He was the head of the new Apple TV user interface and physical construction. Now he is leaving Apple according to re/code.

Ben joined Apple after they bought his startup in 2011. Now he is leaving Apple to once again create a new startup. “I want to create not just a killer product, but my own iconic company,” Ben Keighran told re/code. Ben went on to say it was “really difficult. I’ve totally fallen in love with the people, the culture, the product.”

With the departure of Ben Keighran, there is a big hole in the Apple TV team, leaving the future of the Apple TV is some doubt. There have been rumors within the Apple TV team that Apple has been unable to land the deals needed to create a streaming service. Although Apple is expected to announce strong early sales for the new Apple TV, it is rumored to be short of what was expected within Apple.

Even though Ben is now leaving Apple his impact on the Apple TV will be felt for years to come because much of what he has already done will only be seen by the general public in the months and years to come as updates roll out. So even if there is a massive change at the top for the Apple TV team the end users are unlikely to see its affects for some time.
