With that new number, research firm Ampere Analysis has released a chart showing how much money media companies are spending on original content. According to that chart, shown below, Apple TV+ will be spending more than Netflix, Disney+, Amazon, and Hulu combined.
As the report from Ampere Analysis notes, “High value exclusive content is the key battleground.” Existing and upcoming streaming services are investing billions in original content, each aiming to pull in more viewers with the promise of high quality, exclusive shows and movies.
While Apple+ is at the top of the list of new streaming services investing in original content, Disney is spending $1 billion on originals for Disney+ with plans to increase that number to $2.5 billion by 2022. Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu each have an already established audience and content library but continue to invest more money in their original movies and series. Netflix is currently spending $2.44 billion, Amazon is spending $0.38 billion, and Hulu is at $0.14 billion.
Will Apple’s investment in original content be enough to help them become more successful than other upcoming streaming services? Let us know what you think in the comments.
