Apple TV+ has partnered with The Maurice Sendak Foundation for rights to create children’s shows based on Sendak’s children’s stories and illustrations like Where The Wild Things Are. With this multi-year deal, Apple TV+ will be able to reimagine the author’s works into new children’s content exclusively for the streaming service.
The Maurice Sendak Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that works to promote literature, visual, and performing arts and supports new and existing artists in the children’s theater and literature fields. It also advocates for animal rights.
“We are delighted to be collaborating with Apple to bring the work of Maurice Sendak to screens around the world,” said Lynn Caponera, President of The Maurice Sendak Foundation. “Though most know him through his iconic books, Sendak’s legacy also resides in theater, film, and TV, and this partnership with Apple will further the awareness of his unique genius.”
Longtime Sendak colleague Arthur Yorinks and his Night Kitchen Studios will work with Apple and oversee each project inspired by the late author’s iconic illustrations and stories.
