Apple Plans to Take on Amazon Channels with Bundled Premium Channels

Apple has a plan B after its live TV streaming service failed. It looks like Apple plans to sell bundles of premium channels.

According to Recode, Apple plans to sell a bundle of HBO, Showtime, and Starz. It is rumored that you may get a discount, but as of right now we do not have any details.

You can already get HBO for $15 a month, Showtime for $11 a month, and Starz for $9 a month through apps on iTunes.

Now I wouldn’t get your hopes up that Apple will start to sell a live TV streaming service like Sling TV, PlayStation Vue, or DIRECTV NOW. Apple has publicly said that it’s stopped trying to sell a traditional live TV streaming service.

One would assume that Apple has some type of plan to make this bundle more attractive, because right now cord cutters already have a wide range of ways to access these channels. Yet it is possible that this is the start of an effort to take on Amazon’s Channels service. Through Amazon Channels cord cutters can subscribe to a wide range of services and manage their billing. It is possible Apple wants to do the same by allowing you to manage your billing through iTunes.
