Apple Plans to Invest $1 Billion In Original Content

Everyone seems to have the cord cutting bug and Apple is no exception. After launching a few test shows on its Apple Music service Apple is reportedly ready to spend $1 billion on original shows in 2018.

Now details are still thin, and nothing leads us to believe Apple plans to launch its own streaming service, but as best we can tell Apple plans to continue to expand its original programming for its Apple Music service.

The $1 billion investment is a major step forward but still feels like a toe in the water for Apple. Compared to the $7 billion Netflix is spending in 2018 on content and the billions Amazon is spending this feels more like a test than a full-fledged commitment from Apple.

Original content can be a lucrative business as Hulu has shown with its “Handmaid’s Tale.” A successful hit can change people’s views on a streaming service.

For now Apple seems determined to grow its Apple Music service and is likely using its original content to help do so. Though a few successful shows could change everything and result in a major leap forward for Apple’s TV plans.

For now we will have to wait and see what Apple does next.
