Apple Has Quietly Ordered 20 Original Shows

Recently it was announced that Apple had decided not to pursue a live TV streaming service. Although Apple has not said why, many are pointing to Amazon’s decision to skip a live TV streaming service sighting high costs, low profits, and an overcrowded market.

Now that does not mean Apple has abandoned plans for their own streaming service. Recently Apple has ordered 20 original shows from big names in Hollywood. Apple has partnered with Oprah Winfrey, Sesame Workshop, Layne Eskridge, Zack Van Amburg, and Jamie Erlicht to name a few.

It seems that Apple has decided to build their own on-demand service full of exclusive content. Details are still thin, but from the looks of it Apple could easily announce a service this year, but a 2019 launch date could also be possible. Now, remember that is an educated estimate not a prediction of when the service will go live.

The question now is how will Apple stand out against a crowded video field. With huge names like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon dominating and smaller services like Curiosity Stream building an audience, it is very crowded. If Apple waits until 2019 they will also be competing against the launch of Disney’s new streaming service.

So, what exactly Apple plans to do with their 20 original shows is still unknown. It Is possible they will include them as a bundle with Apple Music or launch their own streaming service separate from Apple Music. We will have to wait and see what happens.
