CBS Studios is celebrating Star Trek Day by releasing an all-new animation series, Star Trek: Very Short Treks, and a new comic book by creator Casper Kelley.
Based on the style of the Emmy award-winning show Star Trek: The Animated Series, the new shorts will feature familiar characters voiced by Star Trek veterans and pay tribute to the franchise and the first animated spin-off of the original series.
The cast includes George Takei as Sulu, Jonathan Frakes as Will Riker, Doug Jones as Saru, Armin Shimerman as Quark, Ethan Peck as Spock, Gates McFadden as Dr. Beverly Crusher, Celia Rose Gooding as Uhura, Connor Trinner as Trip Tucker, Bruce Horak as Hemmer, and Noël Wells as Tendi.
The first of the five shorts will debut on September 8, Star Trek Day, on StarTrek.com and the Star Trek YouTube channel. Fans can catch new episodes on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. ET through October 4. Check out the trailer on YouTube.

Along with the shorts, Kelley will launch a new comic book, Star Trek: The Animated Celebration Presents the Scheimer Barrier. The first chapter will be released digitally on StarTrek.com on September 8, with new chapters released on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. ET. Star Trek The Animated Series debuted 50 years ago on NBC and was based on Star Trek: The Original Series. The animated show took off from where the original ended, following the adventures of the USS Enterprise crew as they explored the galaxy. William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, Nichelle Nichols, George Takei, and Majel Barrett voiced the characters. The show spanned two seasons, totaling twenty-two episodes.
