Android TV Reports 80% More Users Since Last Year

Google’s Android TV’s popularity is seeing slow but steady growth year over year. While it may not be as popular as some of its competitors including Roku and Amazon Fire TV, Google’s announced that Android TV has 80% more users now than it did this time last year.

While no real numbers have been released as far as Android TV users go, the increase shows that at least the streaming device is growing. Google also revealed that the number of apps in Android TV’s Google Play store continues to grow, from 5000 in 2019 to more than 7000 available apps this year.

Android TV has had a few updates and secret projects in the works lately. It recently updated its browsing screen to display trailers similar to Netflix’s viewing experience, and its long-rumored new TV dongle looks like it might be packing some new updated software. Plus, a recently uncovered FCC listing suggests T-Mobile could be developing a media streamer powered by Android TV as part of its TVision home television service.
