Americans 49 & Younger Spend Most of Their TV Viewing Streaming vs Cable TV

For years we have heard how streaming was becoming more popular than cable TV even if you have cable TV. Now a new study from Viamedia says Americans 49 and younger spend more time streaming content from places like Netflix and Hulu even if they still have a cable TV subscription.

According to the report from Viamedia, 80% of Americans 21-39 spent most of their time streaming. 78% of Americans 40-49 spent most of their time watching TV streaming, and it was not until you got to Americans over 50 did the majority—70%—spend most of their times watching cable TV.

This is a huge moment for streaming and cord cutting. When talking with a number of cord cutters, one of the main reasons they cut the cord after saving money was the fact that they already streamed most of their shows.

As more Americans stream content online and move away from cable TV that $200 a month bill looks more unnecessary. Watch for cord cutting to grow as more Americans spend more time streaming.
