Amazon’s Prime Video Wants to Give You Better Recommendations But Needs Your Help

Amazon has been slowly working on improving its Prime Video service. This includes plans to improve Alexa to make it easier to find movies and TV shows. Now Amazon wants to give you better recommendations but needs your help.

To give you better recommendations, Amazon needs to know more about what you enjoy watching, not just what you have watched. To help with that, Amazon has now started to ask at the end of movies and TV shows for you to give it a thumbs up or down. Instead of just hoping you go into the show details to rate it Amazon now asks you if you like that show at the end.

By hopefully getting more feedback from viewers, Amazon will be able to start giving better recommendations, not just based on what you watched but what you enjoyed.

This all comes as Amazon back in September announced that it will be adding commercials to its Prime Video service. Now, its base Prime Video service that is included with Amazon Prime will add commercials starting in early 2024. If you want a commercial-free experience, it will cost you an extra $2.99 a month.

The commercials will be added to movies and TV shows starting in early 2024 in U.S., U.K., Germany, and Canada, followed by France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia later in the year. Amazon says its ads will be “meaningfully fewer” commercials compared to what you would see on cable TV.

“To continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time, starting in early 2024, Prime Video shows and movies will include limited advertisements. We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers. Ads in Prime Video content will be introduced in the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Canada in early 2024, followed by France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia later in the year. No action is required for Prime members. We’re not making changes in 2024 to the current price of Prime membership. We will also offer a new ad-free option for an additional $2.99 per month* for U.S. Prime members and will share pricing for other countries at a later date. We will email Prime members several weeks before ads are introduced into Prime Video with information on how to sign up for the ad-free option if they would like.” Amazon said in a statement on its website.

Currently, Amazon Prime costs $14.99 a month or $139 per year. You can get just Prime Video for $8.99. Starting next year in the U.S. if you want comercial free, you will now need to pay an extra $2.99 a month.
