Amazon sold over half a million Fire TV devices during Prime Day, according to reports.
So why is this important to cord cutters? Even if most of those Fire TVs do not end up in cord-cutting households, it’s like having your foot in the door. Studies have shown once people start using services, such as the Fire TV and Netflix, they are far more likely to become a cord cutter.
Prime Day 2016 highlights globally:
- Sold over 2.5x more Amazon Fire TV devices compared to Prime Day last year—the Fire TV Stick was the bestselling Amazon device.
- More than two million toys and one million pairs of shoes were purchased by customers on Prime Day 2016.
- More than 90,000 TVs were purchased on Prime Day 2016.
- Hundreds of thousands of Kindle e-readers sold on Prime Day.
- Prime member orders on the Amazon app surpassed Prime Day 2015 mobile app orders by more than 2x.
- More than a million customers used the Amazon app for the first time on Prime Day to shop and to watch-a-deal.
Prime Day seems to have not only been a big hit for Amazon but also for sellers on Amazon.

There clearly is a demand for cord cutting-related devices as Amazon’s Prime Day deals have shown. As the market becomes flooded with streaming players, cord cutting will continue to see growth as new people find out how easy it is to ditch cable TV.
