Amazon’s Home Internet Service Announces What Speeds It Will Offer

Amazon

For years now, Amazon has been talking about offering a home internet service now, it is becoming a reality after receiving FCC approval. Over the next few years, Amazon will start launching satellites into space to offer internet to what Amazon’s CEO says could be 400 million customers.

One of the big questions we have had has been what internet speeds Amazon will offer through their satellite service. Now Amazon has announced a few different options that will offer different speeds.

Amazon’s home internet service will offer several different antenna options. From an ultra-portable version you can go backpacking with to get internet deep in the mountains to a pro version meant for your home. Each antenna will offer a different max speed.

Here are the three internet speed options Amazon Home Internet will offer:

Standard

This standard version will come with an 11″ square antenna that will offer speeds up to 400 Mbps down. This will be perfect for homes.

Pro Version

If you need a lot of speed, Amazon has an 11″ by 30″ pro antenna that can offer speeds up to 1 Gbps. This will be perfect for companies or large households.

Portable Version

Now if speed is not that important to you, but you want something you can easily travel with, you may want Amazon’s ultra-portable version that is just 7″ square and offers speeds up to 100 Mbps.

Sadly the one piece of information everyone wants, the price, hasn’t been announced yet. Amazon reportedly wants to make the service competitive with SpaceX’s Starlink internet service, which currently starts at $90 a month in markets with good coverage. It is expected that Amazon will be competitive with that.

Amazon hopes to start launching satellites next year after testing some possible models this year.

As we learn more about Amazon’s home internet service we will post updates.
